Aston Hall is a well preseved Jacobean mansion. It was built between 1618 and 1635 by Sir Thomas Holte. Aston Hall was the site of a siege during the English Civil War and damage can be seen on one of the staircaises causedby a cannon ball fired by the Round Heads. The area is a regular scene for battles of another sort, the Aston Villa football ground is near by, and one of the stands is called the "Holte End". Aston Hall is best seen by candlelight and this is possible in November each year. Admission to the Hall is normally free. (+44 121 327 0062).
